Smoked: Caldwell The T Connecticut

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Caldwell The T Connecticut is a collaboration of Robert Caldwell, Tony Booth and AJ Fernandez. Some sources claim this is a re-blend with AJ’s added touch.

Looking at the tan wrapper with an orange and black primary band and a yellow secondary band ir looks something meant to be smoked on Halloween…or passed out ot trick or treater in lieu of candy – well, to trick or treaters 21 and older to keep it legal.

Vanilla, creaminess, earth, cedar, milk chocolate and pepper. There’s nuttiness but it’s not cashews. Let’s call it unsalted mixed nuts. By the second third, a touch of citrus, a hint of licorice and spice emerge, but that’s about it. So much for complexity and transitions. I’m getting picky on transitions and complexity, aren’t I? OK. There are some transitions and complexity. I really wanted more.

The spice increases in intensity as the smoke continues into the final third. There’s also a taste of hay with some bitterness in play by the final third. Too much spice. Too much pepper. Too much hay by the end of the smoke.

Give the cigar its due – pretty good construction – nice open draw, fairly even burn line, solid smoke production. The ash could have held a little tighter.

In summation, your Honor: Three great blenders – nothing special. Too many cooks in the kitchen. Caldwell The T Connecticut is a decent cigar. It has its moments, its plusses and its minuses and sums out at plus or minus zero. Well, it’s a zero sum game. I have smoked numerous better Connecticuts. Then again, I have smoke many not as good as Caldwell The T. Zero sum.
