The Southern Draw Evening Primrose: A Review | @LeeMack912 | Season 11, Episode 5. #anothergreatday

Southern Draw Evening Primrose, a new regular production core line that will be widely available in early 2023 after getting a limited release through Cigars International.

The blend features a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, a 7th priming Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and a filler that is half Honduran, a quarter Nicaraguan, and a quarter U.S.-grown ligero. Like the rest of Southern Draw’s portfolio, it is produced at AJ Fernandez’s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The company is releasing three box-pressed vitolas for the widespread launch, which is slated for the first quarter of 2023:

Southern Draw Evening Primrose Rothschild (4 3/4 x 50)
Southern Draw Evening Primrose Short Churchill (6 1/2 x 48)
Southern Draw Evening Primrose Diadema (6 3/4 x 52)
Pricing will be between $13.49 and $14.99 per cigar, with each size offered in 10-count boxes.

In a press release, the company said that the blend is being introduced to offset the growing demand of the company’s Jacobs Ladder blend, though it noted that Evening Primrose is more flavor forward and does not deliver the molasses sweetness of the broadleaf. “The Evening Primrose will likely be considered by most as more robust than the Jacobs Ladder, however, distinctly different, and equal to the task of placement in our growing family of blends,” the company wrote in a press release.

But before those cigars get to stores, the company is launching the Evening Primrose at Cigars International as part of the retailers’ CIGARfest. A 6 1/2 x 46 lonsdale and 6 3/4 x 52 perfecto, both of which are box-pressed and will not be part of the wider release, are included in an event sampler that the store has created. A total of 12,000 samplers have been created, which are currently available.

The Southern Draw Evening Primrose gets its name from one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, and which is known for only blooming in the evening and remaining open until early in the morning the following day. The satin white color scheme of the boxes and multi-color cigar bands were chosen by Sharon Holt to reflect the refinement of the pale evening primrose blossoms as they reach for the light of the moon.

The company is slating production of the Evening Primrose at 180,000 cigars per year.
