Macanudo Unveils the New Vintage Maduro 2013

Macanudo is releasing another cigar featuring vintage tobacco. The new smoke –– called Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 –– features tobacco grown in the Connecticut River Valley ten years ago and aged over that time. Vintage Maduro 2013 is a full-time release for Macanudo.

The new Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 features a thick, oily USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Two factors influence the unique character of this wrapper. First, the growing season during the summer of 2013 was unusually hot and humid –– allowing for an exceptional tobacco crop. And second, ten years of aging has allowed the tobacco to mature and fully develop its flavor profile.

Beyond the wrapper, Vintage Maduro 2013 includes a Honduran binder and filler tobaccos from Brazil, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. 

Vintage Maduro 2013 is a medium-bodied smoke. Tasting notes include hints of coffee, fruit, spice, and earthiness. Suggested drink pairings are bourbon and single-malt Scotch. 

Ernest Gocaj, who oversees the Connecticut growing operations for Macanudo said, “The growing season in 2013 was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The crop was exceptional at harvest, which meant that we had to be obsessive when it came to monitoring the tobacco during the eight-week curing process. That’s how important curing is. Our hard work paid off because we ultimately brought the tobacco’s very best attributes to life.”

Macanudo has previously released cigars containing vintage tobacco, such as Macanudo Vintage 2010 –– which featured a Connecticut Shade wrapper.

As mentioned above, Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 is a full-time offering from the brand. It is available in three sizes: Robusto (5X50), Toro Grande (6 X54), and a Churchill (7 X49). The three sizes are each sold in boxes of 20. All Vintage Maduro 2013s come with an individual protective cedar covering, and SRP per cigar ranges from $11.99 to $13.29, depending on the size.
