Macanudo Launches Estate Reserve Release No. 2
For the second year running, Macanudo has collaborated with the Flint Knoll Winery of Napa Valley, California, to produce a cigar with tobacco aged in French Oak Cabernet wine barrels. The new cigar, called Macanudo Estate Reserve Release No. 2, will hit shelves nationwide in October 2023. Like the first Macanudo Flint Knoll Estate Reserve, this cigar is a limited-edition release.
Macanudo Estate Reserve Release No. 2 Blend Information
Macanudo Estate Reserve Release No. 2 features tobacco from five different countries. The wrapper is an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade, the binder is a Connecticut Broadleaf (USA), and the filler tobaccos include Brazilian Mata Fina, Nicaraguan Jalapa, Dominican Olor, and Dominican Piloto Cubano.
In addition, the Connecticut Broadleaf binder was aged in Cabernet Sauvignon French Oak barrels from Flint Knoll. These barrels were specially selected from the 2019 Cabernet vintage — a year that produced a remarkably flavorful and complex wine. Thanks to the unique aging process, the tobacco found in Macanudo Estate Reserve Release No. 2 delivers an incredibly smooth, spicy, and refined flavor profile.
Flint Knoll Proprietor Aaron Michaelis said, “By aging the binder leaf in our French Oak barrels, the complexity and spice of our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon comes to life in a distinctive new smoking experience that’s spicier than the original release. Those who enjoy Macanudo Estate Reserve No. 2 should expect a cigar with notes of creamy vanilla, toasted almonds, dark currants, and cedar.”
Estate Reserve Release No. 2 is a medium-bodied smoke that pairs well with Bold Wines, Scotch, Whiskey, Coffee, Port, and Cognac.
Justin Andrews, new business development manager for Scandinavian Tobacco Group, which owns the Macanudo brand, said, “Together with Jhonys Diaz, Yuri Guillen, and our blend development team at General Cigar Dominicana, we created a new method of aging binder leaf in wine barrels for Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll. It was a time and labor-intensive process, one that had us test binder varietals and aging durations. We ultimately achieved the complexity and nuances we were looking for in the smoking experience.”
Macanudo Estate Reserve Release No. 2 Price and Availability
Because of the barrel-aging process and the time and resources required to create Estate Reserve Release No. 2, only 3,000 boxes have been made, and they will only be available in the US market.
Estate Reserve Release No. 2 features branding from both Macanudo and Flint Knoll winery. It is available in two sizes — a Toro and a Churchill. Both will be sold in boxes of 10. MSRP per cigar is $19.99 for the Toro and $21.99 for the Churchill.
