Hoyo de Monterrey is unveiling two new cigars this summer: Rojo and Oscuro. Both are full-time additions to the Hoyo lineup. While the new cigars share similar packaging and are marketed in tandem, both feature unique blends.

Hoyo de Monterrey Rojo and Oscuro Blend Breakdowns

Hoyo de Monterrey Rojo features a Honduran Jamastran wrapper above a Nicaraguan binder and Honduran, Dominican, and Nicaraguan fillers. It’s a medium-bodied smoke with hints of toasted marshmallow, Saigon cinnamon, and molasses. Suggested drink pairings include tequila, porter, and espresso.

On the other hand, Oscuro boasts a Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper, an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and Honduran, Dominican, and Nicaraguan fillers. While it is a darker cigar than Rojo, it’s also medium-bodied, with tasting notes of cherry cola, rye bread, white pepper, and cayenne. Suggested drink pairings for Oscuro are coffee, stout, and aged rum.

Senior Brand Manager Ed Lahmann said, “The launch of these blends represents more than just new cigars. They are about honoring the brand’s deep-seated foundation in Honduras. As one of the first Cuban ex-pat brands available in the US, Hoyo de Monterrey laid the foundation for Honduran cigar making nearly 60 years ago and has become a living legend in the world of premium cigars. With the launch of ‘Rojo’ and ‘Oscuro,’ the brand’s journey is reflected in its commitment to balancing traditional Honduran craftsmanship against the handmade cigar category’s ever-changing tides.”
