or the first time in the history of either company, General Cigar Co. and Espinosa Cigars have joined forces to create a new cigar brand called Warzone, a limited-edition line that features a Cameroon wrapper selected from General Cigar’s vast and versatile inventory of tobacco.
“I’ve never been able to find Cameroon that I was satisfied with,” Erik Espinosa of Espinosa Cigars told Cigar Aficionado during an interview in New York City. “Either I didn’t like the quality or it was too expensive, but once I saw the Cameroon General had in its library, I knew it was what I wanted as soon as I opened the bale.”
Warzone
The rest of the tobacco came from Espinosa: Honduran binder, and filler from Nicaragua and Colombia. While Warzone is produced at Espinosa’s factory, La Zona, in Estelí, Nicaragua, it will be distributed by General Cigar.
“We’ve had our eye on partnering with [Espinosa] for many years and have always admired his style,” said Chris Tarr, vice president of marketing for General.
Warzone comes in two sizes, Robusto, measuring 5 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge ($8.49) and Toro, 6 by 52 ($8.99). Both come in 20-count boxes. Only 3,000 boxes have been made and they’re slated to ship on November 12.
The box depicts a battle from The Ten Years’ War, which was part of Cuba’s fight for independence against Spain. According to General and Espinosa, the over-arching theme is struggle and victory, as Warzone was named to celebrate “all that’s been hard fought and won.”
