CAO Launches Pilón Añejo

CAO is continuing their fine tradition of exploring rare and distinct tobacco types with their newest release, Pilón Añejo. Pilón Añejo is a spiritual successor of sorts to the 2015 release CAO Pilón. Both of these cigars underwent the special pilón fermentation technique, which involves carefully layering tobacco leaves in stacks. However, Pilón Añejo not only features a unique blend of tobaccos, but it has also undergone two extra years of aging (thus the inspiration for its name, “Aged Pilón –– Pilón Añejo.”)

CAO Pilón Añejo Blend Information

As mentioned above, CAO Pilón Añejo is fermented in the same labor-intensive style as CAO Pilón. But this new cigar contains a special blend of tobaccos. Pilón Añejo possesses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Honduran Habano binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The tobaccos have then been aged for a further two years to add complexity and depth to the flavors.

Together, these methods add a whole new dimension to the blend. We’ve ultimately created a layered smoking experience that we could not have achieved through any other processes. This cigar is just a pleasure to smoke, and the team and I are really proud of it.”

CAO Pilón Añejo is hand crafted at the STG HATSA factory in Honduras. The blend is described as rich and savory. It is a medium-to-full-bodied smoke, and it imparts tasting notes of wood, earth, toast, and a hint of spice. 

CAO Pilón Añejo Pricing & Availability

CAO Pilón Añejo is a special, limited release for 2022. Total production is capped to 5,000 boxes. The cigar is available in three sizes: Robusto (5.5” x 54), Toro (6” x 52), and Gigante (5.88” x 60). SRP on individual cigars range from $8.89 to $9.29. Pilón Añejo is packaged in boxes of 20, and both the box and band art prominently feature tobacco leaves.
