Oscar Valladares Super Fly

Smoked: Oscar Valladares Super Fly

Move over Leaf by Oscar. Oscar Valladares Super Fly is here. If the massive purple 1970s replica band doesn’t get your attention, the Mexican San Andres wrapper will. I must admit the name and the band give off a kitschy, off brand bundle knockoff vibe. But, this cigar packs some mighty fine full bodied flavor.

Pepper, wood, nuts (walnuts/hazelnuts medley), spice, cream with a breakfast cereal taste, earthy, kind of grassy by the second third, leather and a hint of unidentifiable citrus. The retrohale could make you sneeze from the intense pepper. It’s a pepper bomb, but with enough balance with the other flavors to make it quite enjoyable.

The construction gets high grades from the draw to the smoke output a burn line that stayed dead even throughout the entire smoke. The white ash held on tight until a drop off during the final third. Before that it wouldn’t budge unless you rolled it off.

Oscar Valladares Super Fly is a surprisingly good find. Next time I’ll have to turn up the volume on the cigar by smoking one while listening to Curtis Mayfield singing “Super Fly.” The name, the cigar band and the experience does have that 70s vibe going. Can I still fit in my bell bottoms and tie-dyed t-shirt?

Just recently enjoyed one for the first time. I also thought it was a good cigar. I grabbed it off the shelf strictly because of the band. These marketing people, they really know what they’re doing.
