Do I stay or do I go

Here’s a question…

I’ve been into this ‘cigar thing’ for almost a year now. I’ve tried a variety of cigars that I love, some that are good, some that are ok and others that I did not like at all.

I now have a handful of sticks that I know I like and have smoked multiple times. I also know enough on what to avoid, if necessary.

But I do like to try new things.

I’m curious what others have done at this point.

Do you stay with what you know and invest in that brand via a bulk or box purchase?

Do you continue to test new things, knowing you might hit a few duds along the way?

Or is it a combination of the two: Smoking what you like with a smattering of experimentation thrown in?

I love the idea of trying new things and finding that next gem but I hate knowing there is a chance of lighting up a bad stick and ruining my cigar time.

I go to a cigar store where I can sit and enjoy a cappuccino and a cigar. I go about once a week and every time I go I try a different cigar (which I buy there). If I like it I may buy 3 or 4. I have my go to cigars at home. These are the ones I buy by the box. But I’m always trying out different cigars.

Keep your "Go-To"s in ample supply but never rebuke an opportunity to seek new frontiers.

Knowing what you DO NOT like is as important as what you DO!

Cigars are an adventure. You find sticks you like and return to when you can afford them. But I pick up on recommendations from friends or reviews that I try. You're always going find some duds or some basic, average cigars. But we all live for those Oh Wow smokes. The only way to find them is take the risk - try them. There are cigars that have been (some still are) on my bucket list. I eventually track them down and try them. Sometimes I'm disappointed, but quite often I am rewarded for my patience and persistence with the unusual, interesting and even exceptional smoke. I've been on a Caldwell Lost & Found adventure for the past year. Found a couple of duds, two mehs, but also some very exciting super aged tobacco gems. Join the crusade!

I am signed up with two cigar of the month clubs. This ensures that I will receive new cigars every month. Also, I maintain a collection of about 350 cigars distributed throughout 20 different acrylic and tupperware humidors. A cheap way to store them and there is little to do in the realm of maintenance. So... For a lazy guy like me, this works.

Yes, I love trying new cigars all the time. And yes, I maintain a collection of cigars that I really like. My opinion... Get the most out of both cigar worlds. Try new cigars and maintain a treasure trove of some of those that you really like.

Buy five packs to try. I remember having a particular cigar with a rum and thought what a pos this cigar is. Later in cigar aficionado they had a section on cigars to pair with scotch. They paired the pos cigar with a Smokey scotch that I had. Wow, that cigar was great. It liked the Smokey scotch but was horrible with the sweetness of rum. Before you go negative on cigar pair it with something else.

Hey man, it seems like you are overthinking this 'thing' way too much. It's not complicated at all. Keep trying new things, the cigar world is so versatile and massive that there is always new things to try. If you love something and want to keep it in your daily rotation and if you have the means, buy a box, but never stop trying new cigars you haven't tried. Keep expanding your palate. That's the beauty of this thing, our palates change and grow along the way. I hope this helped. , Cheers bro!
