Too Many Candles on the Cake!

Smoked: J. C. Newman Diamond Crown Julius Caeser

To celebrate my 69th ride around the sun, I chose a J. C. Newman Diamond Crown Julius Caeser Toro from a sampler given to me by my wife for the occasion.

This gorgeous 6 x 52 Ecuadorian Havana-wrapped stick made at Tabacalara A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic had a pre-light aroma of sweet barnyard. Upon spark-up, it was a delightfully impressive flavor bomb, with deep notes of wood, earth, baking spices, a bit of pepper, and a hint of chocolate.

Transitioning into the second third, the chocolate and earth notes disappeared leaving a creamy, but not as “deep” a smoke of spices, wood, and less pepper. Those flavors remained throughout the final third of the cigar, with the pepper then becoming more prominent.

Despite a wonky burn line in the first third requiring a touch-up, the rest of the cigar’s burn was close to perfect, as was its draw. Smoke production was excellent. It paired perfectly with Evan Williams bourbon on the rocks.

At around $15.00 - $18.00 (online pricing) a pop, I doubt that I would buy another. But I wouldn’t mind smoking one again someday.

Cheers!
