After resting in my humidor for the mandatory 2 weeks (my own self-imposed mandate) following delivery, the first few Romeo robustos I smoked out of the 30+ I’d purchased left me very disappointed. Very. Although they were as in-your-face full-strength as ever, there was… something… missing. The deep, complex flavors just weren’t there. The delicious, savory smoke just wasn’t there. The satisfaction factor had dropped from a 10 to a 2. I wondered what the hell was I going to do with all those cigars. I was bummed.
Then I had an “AH-HA!” moment. I knew what I was going to do. I removed them from their cellophane sleeves to put them away for a while to see if a good, long, totally-naked rest would do them any good. BINGO! Five months later, these gems are exactly what I remember them to be. Those deep, complex flavors have married together and triumphantly returned. And oh, that savory, chewy smoke I remember is back! And maybe, just maybe, the ka-pow nicotine wallop has backed off just a bit. Bummed no more, Brothers and Sisters of the Leaf, I now have some mighty fine stogies that will continue to rest/age even longer – if, that is, I can keep my cotton pickin’ hands out of their humidor. Oh boy! 😁
