Here in Minnesota, maintaining a humidor in the winter has always been a challenge. This usually means, I abandon my humidor from roughly November until April every year. This year, I decided to try and keep up with the humidity with the aid of a new toy.
It's a temp/humidity sensor that talks to my phone through the manufacturer's app. (IOS/Android). In addition to getting a quick glance at the current status of my humidor, I have set thresholds to notify me if the temperature or humidity drops or raises beyond my comfort zone. The standard hydrometer that came built-in to the side of my humidor has always been junk, so I used to run a digital display hydrometer just behind the glass. While the digital hydrometer did keep accurate numbers, I'd still have to be mindful to look.
In steps the Govee sensor. Since it doesn't have any physical display on the device itself, location placement in the humidor wasn't all that critical. I used the included mount & tape to attach it to the backside of the shelf in my humidor (as seen in the picture).
I'm going to keep an eye on these over the next few months to get comfortable before keeping stock through a Minnesota winter.
Keep tuned for an update in the spring...

PS, I purchased this device during a Cyber Monday sale on Amazon for $26. The normal price is $32.99

(4 years ago)I'm Here in Northeast Iowa so I know your frustration with maintaining a Humidor in the winter time! I am looking forward to an update in the future on your new toy to see how it has held up and accuracy. Cheers.

(4 years ago)Interested in your follow-up to see if this will work for you. Bluetooth vs. WiFi. Waiting for a new Cigar Oasis, hopefully that'll work well for my new humidor.

It works well as tested but, what it needs is to be able to function when your miles away, not just in your house; lE WiFi
When that capability exists they have a world beater product for us cigar smokers

I'm pretty sure the alerts get sent to you via the app even if you are outside of the wifi/bluetooth area.
Next time I'm out and about, I'll have one of my kids open in, that should trigger the low humidity alert.

(4 years ago)Very cool item! Personally, I stopped monitoring the humidity years ago, unless I perceived an issue. With an electronic unit for my cabinet and beads for my cooledor, I just add water as needed. I usually don't even look at the humidity readings.

(4 years ago)What electronic unit and beads do you use @Smoke'em? I like to know if I'm in the ballpark via hygrometers at the least.

(4 years ago)Brain,
For my Aristocrat cabinet, its the unit that came with it - Habitat. For my cooledor the beads I use are ExquisiCat Pearl Fresh cat litter. Don't know if they still make it. I bought a 7 lb jug \~15 years ago. Since I only had to replace the beads a few times, this will last until I'm kitty litter.
