Luciano Fiat Lux Genius is made with Nicaraguan filler and binder and covered in a dark brown, oily, toothy Sumatra wrapper with some patchy mottled spots and somewhat visible veinage. The cigar is draped with a single band and a gold footer.
Cedar, spice/pepper, ginger, cinnamon, graham crackers, honey or molasses sweetness, earth, leather, and mineral notes. It has that Sumatra sweetness and floral notes. This cigar is a spice/pepper bomb. I can’t identify them all, but it’s like someone emptied half the bottles in the kitchen spice cabinet. I taste clove – or what I can recall from chewing Clove Gum as a kid. A few puffs of mixed nuts, toast and caramel hit my palate along the way along with a hint of fresh brewed coffee, although with the clove and ginger it may have been more like tea. It’s an intriguing, unusual flavor profile. Fiat Lux Genius is a medium to medium-mild bodied, medium to mild strength cigar.
Slightly loose draw but acceptable. Should have known from the prelight cold draw – it was like using one of those oversized straws that come with 32-ounce sodas banned in New York. The construction overall was good - ample smoke production, dark grey ash that held tight to over an inch or whenever I decided to tap it off, and an even burn line.
Luciano Fiat Lux Genius is cedar, spice-pepper-forward. The remaining flavors compliment that dominant taste well. It’s balanced with enough complexity to keep things interesting.
Fiat Lux translates to “Let There Be Light” in Latin. A passage from Genesis makes this an appropriate cigar to smoke on a Holy Day of Obligation.
