Kafie 1901 Connecticut

Smoked: Kafie 1901 Connecticut

Kafie 1901 Connecticut Liga de la Casa is supposedly a house blend, i.e. Liga de la Casa Spanish translation but this factory workers’ cigar was eventually sold to us willing to try it outside the friendly confines of the tobacco factory. The cigar is made with filler from the Dominican Republic, a Honduran (or Indonesian by some online data) binder and covered in a goldrn tan Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper with just a few noticeable veins.

Charred cedar, kitchen cabinet spices, earth, leather, and fresh brewed coffee is what I taste first to last third. No transitions. Zero complexity. Yet somehow it is a fairly tasty Connecticut. I’d pair it with morning coffee if need be. It’s mild-medium bodied and medium strength.

The draw was a tad tight needing the Perfect Draw. That settled the issue for the remainder of the smoke. The burn line was a bit wavy but reasonably even. Moderate smoke production. The ash held to a half inch before dropping – or tapping off if I got to it in time.

This is subjective and I’m estimating the cigar’s merits as one would a Division 3 college sports team. Kafie 1901 Connecticut is not bad for a budget stick. I guess it would depend upon your budget. A $5 stick tasting like a $6 stick? One man’s Burning Man is another man’s Dumpster Fire. All that taken into consideration - this is a surprisingly good factory smoke cigar.

BTW: Per my friendly neighborhood tobacconist, Kafie is pronounced KIE-fee.
