Hoyo Cubano

While trying to escape the heat in Bermuda, I stumbled across a small stand in an air-conditioned store selling cigars.

Yes sir.

He had a table of 'regular' cigars and a humidor full of Cuban cigars.

Yes sir.

This is my very first honest to goodness Cuban cigar. His selection, although small, was impressive. I grabbed two sticks, one of which is the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2. I don't remember why this particular cigar was stuck in my head, but I remember seeing this cigar on a list of must-try cigars. The vendor took a moment to select what he felt was the best cigar that was primed to smoke, tossed in some cedar strips and a humidification pack... I couldn't wait long and lit this bad boy up 3 hours later.

Yes sir.

When I looked it up later, I learned it was a 93 rated cigar that showed tasting notes of nuts, honey, nutmeg, etc.

It was smooth and consistent. I pulled more of the nutty toast flavors.

I enjoyed this cigar.

But I also recognize that some of the previous non-Cuban cigars I've smoked were just as good (in my lowly opinion). I mean I go from smoking a $3 coffee-flavored cigar to dropping $35 on this. It was almost a $1 a minute to smoke it. Although really good, I don't think the value is there. It was a cool experience, a good cigar and I checked the box on my list.
