EP Carrillo Pledge Sojourn

EP Carrillo Pledge Sojourn Toro is a box pressed cigar made in the Dominican Republic with binder and filler from Ecuador & Nicaraguan covered in a slightly oily Connecticut Habano wrapper. Can we get any more international?

Wood, burnt/charred at times, pepper – often intense, a sweet creaminess with chocolate and coffee, earthy, a bit mossy, occasional notes of hay. It’s a medium-full bodied stick, medium strength.

The burn line was erratic, off kilter, cattywampus – pulled that one out of the deep recesses of my memory bank. Now a few touchups were required, but more often the burn line evened itself out on its own – tilting the cigar. That’s a skill set I have yet to fully attain, but maybe I’m making some progress. Baby steps. The draw was spot on perfect. The smoke output was reasonable. Another interesting twist – the ash during the final third was two-toned dark grey and light grey. Not stacked light and dark. One side was essentially much darker grey than the other side. A cigar once featured on the X-Files. The ash did roll off easily and only dropped off once at about ¾ inch.

The Pledge Sojourn was an enjoyable smoke. I liked it, can’t quite give it a 5 though for flavor. It’s a solid 4 in the Cigar World rating system.
