Don’t Judge A Book (Cigar) By Its Cover (Band)

Smoked: 601 Pennsylvania Edition

Marketing strategists would love me. I’m a sucker for packaging. As such, I let this cigar mellow in my humidor for over a year. Why? Because its band didn’t do a thing for me. In fact, it was a turn off.

On whim, I rather reluctantly dug down into the humidor and decided to finally check it out. Oh. My. Goodness. It was worth the wait.

This superb 6 1/8 x 50 toro features a Habano Oscuro wrapper over Nicaraguan tobacco, plus one leaf of Pennsylvania Broadleaf. Wonderful flavors of wood, toast, and subtle sweetness greet the palate following a pleasant peppery start, although I would have preferred a longer finish. “Abundant” doesn’t seem to adequately describe the smoke production. Perhaps voluminous is a better descriptor? The burn and draw were as close to perfect as one can hope for.

I’ve now come to the conclusion that I should never judge a cigar based on appearance. This one proved that in spades. Cheers!

It's another winner from Erik Espinosa.
