Caldwell Lost & Found Plume robusto is an unbanded cigar cloaked in a Habano wrapper. It’s a straight forward medium bodied, medium strength stick start to finish.
The draw is perfect from toasting to the nub. Nice. There’s decent smoke output. The burn line was very wavy from the start and remained uneven throughout the smoke needing several touchups. But there were no wrapper issues. Give it a 4 on construction.
The flavor profile is interesting - earth, graphite taste like lead, oak, almonds, a hint of coffee, leather and floral notes. The oak gives way to a cedar taste and then back again by the second third. That’s also where notes of stale bread or pretzels and pepper kick in.
I wouldn’t call it complex. I must say there’s a smooth quality to the flavors and aroma. There’s something about this cigar that I like that’s hard to describe. What it lacks in complex flavors and great transitions it makes up for in a smooth, silky draw of fragrance. I give it a reluctant 4. Yet my brain is telling me it’s a 4 and then some.
Caldwell Lost & Founds are an adventure. They’re like the little girl in the Longfellow poem. When they are good, they are very good. But when they are bad, they are horrid. And then there is a Lost & Found like Plume. It’s like asking, “Then how do you describe the little girl when she’s having an average day?” Pleasant? That works for me. I’ll rate this cigar experience as pleasant.
