Caldwell Lost & Found Chanc

Smoked: Caldwell Lost & Found Chanc

Caldwell Lost & Found Chance robusto is a medium bodied stick. It starts out medium strength, but ends up, in my opinion full strength. The tobacco is supposedly Nicaraguan and Dominican depending upon whose vital stats you believe. Some claim there is some Sumatran (binder) and even U.S. grown tobacco in the filler. Caldwell often keeps the tobaccos “undisclosed” so who knows?

The flavors include a bit of cream, chocolate/cocoa, wood, earth, leather, some pepper and aged tobacco. There is no balance though. Too much earth and leather drown out the other notes making it bitter and harsh. The retrohale was even more harsh and bitter only adding to my displeasure.

The draw was super tight. Needed to use my handy Perfect Draw to open it up. It helped, but the draw still offered too much resistance. A couple of toothpick pushes opened up the draw for awhile, but the draw remained very tight. The smoke output was thin. I can say the burn line was decent and it produce a solid, lengthy ash with no wrapper issues.

Environment has an impact on our experience with cigars. I smoked it on the back patio on a chilly, cloudy, breezy day and during the final third it started to rain. I doubt that sunny and 70 would have helped, but I may try this cigar again someday when the weather is better – or indoors. Based on this smoke, I must say I am beyond underwhelmed by the Caldwell Lost & Found Chance.

Maybe you just got a lemon… Like you said, give it another chance. I also tend to give up on a blend after one bad experience. Down the road a bit, I’ll smoke another one and I’ll be like hey, wait a minute….
