Asylum Serenity Now 550 Connecticut

Smoked: Asylum Serenity Now 550 Connecticut

Asylum Serenity Now 550 Connecticut consists of a blend of South American and Honduran filler and binder – CLE uses the term “proprietary blend” – very Caldwell-like. It’s covered in a Connecticut seed wrapper with barely visible seams and veins. It’s “evil twin” ia the Insanity Later. They’re displayed together in a box of 100. Another Seinfeld episode transcends popular culture into cigar culture.

Cedar, cashews, earth, creamy vanilla, milk chocolate, and faint roast coffee notes. That’s a typical Connecticut profile, but this cigar has depth for those flavors. The cedar and cream leap out during the first third.

Background honey notes add to the sweetness to the serious cedar flavor during the second third. The only other transitional notes were a touch of citrus and ramped up pepper during the final third. The cigar builds from mild to medium through each third remaining medium strength throughout. It has everything you look for in a Connecticut…amped up.

The cigar has a loose draw, but I can deal with it. It more than makes for that with copious smoke volume. The white grey ash held to ovef an inch stacked like a roll of nickels. The burn line was consistently even.

I had no expectations when I bought this cigar – just that it looked interesting – a Connecticut seed Asylum with a name from my all-time favorite TV series. Asylum Serenity Now lives up to its name. It paired serenely with Highland single malt scotch. It would also be an excellent morning coffee cigar. Now I’m curious to try the Insanity Later.
