Smoked: El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown

As you may know I'm the self proclaimed king of looking for budget sticks that smoke like premium sticks. Let's see if this smoke passes the test. (Honduran Puro)

Cigar: El Rey Del Mundo Shade Grown Robusto cigars are one of two new blends that have been added to the famous El Rey del Mundo brand portfolio. These cigsrs are the first ever El Rey del Mundo to wear Connecticut-seed wrappers grown in Honduras. This shade grown wrapper was grown in the Talanga Valley under cheese cloth tents, which filters the sun’s rays, resulting in a thinner leaf that’s lighter in both color and body. Underneath this gorgeous golden-brown wrapper is the finest Honduran tobaccos: a Jamastran Honduran binder, and aged filler tobaccos from the fertile Jamastran and Copan growing regions. A brand well known for its bold, fuller bodied Cuban style blends, El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown Robusto is the company’s tamest and smoothest blend to date. This is a mellow cigar, offering lush, creamy textured notes of cedar, leather, cashews, sweet spice, and cocoa.

    Update* if you want a mild regular bitter CT with woody notes a little cream. Yes go for it. $5 is $5 but I must say this now. The JC Newman Cigar co Quorum Shade for $2.75 is better. In the case of this cigar you are paying for the iconic name 'El Rey Del Mundo' the cigar in my opinion is basic CT. Nothing special. Cheers fellas.

      Very interesting. I appreciate your opinion, brother. I haven't yet reported on the J. C. Newman Factory Throwouts #59 (candela) I picked up a while ago. In fact, I didn't even record the first smoke of them in my journal. They're not bad, really. But, talk about cheap! Before shipping, they're $1.80 per stick (but with discounts, I paid something like $0.55 ea.). They're now resting, naked, in a humidor for maybe a year. I may try one in a few months to see if any ageing helps smooth our the rough edges and enhances the flavors. Cheers!

      @chipc73 wow $0.55 that's EPIC. Yeah this el rey was BLAH! the DE factory smokes (which I hated too) were better than this CT haha. CRAZY
