Extraordinary Smoke! Outstanding Pairing!

Smoked: E. P. Carillo Pledge Prequel

Yesterday I posted in The Lounge about my first time smoking the delicious E. P. Carillo Pledge Prequel. I unfortunately neglected to mention the beverage that accompanied it. I most certainly should have mentioned it.

I’ll get right to the point: Manhattan. Two parts Evan Williams Kentucky Bourbon/1 part Gallo Sweet Vermouth/2 or 3 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters. I like to float a couple rocks in it.

The Manhattan is something I often enjoy in the colder months, not in the summer. However, for some unknown reason, I decided to make a Manhattan to pair with the Pledge. I cannot adequately relate the exquisitely perfect flavor combination that bathed my palate when the smoke’s finish combined with the dark cocktail. Shades of pure ecstasy.

The next time I smoke a La Flor Dominicana Ligero or Double Ligero, I’m going to try pairing it with a Manhattan; I’ve yet to find an accompanying drink that properly compliments those cigars. A Manhattan just may be the ticket, regardless of the season.

Cheers!

I'm a Manhattan fan myself. For a change up, try a 100 proof rye (Knobbs Creek) and Noily Prat sweet Vermouth. I was pleasantly surprised on how much differance the vermouth made. Oh, don't forget the brandied cherry..
