V660 Carb X Gold Rush

Why V660 with a Gold Rush?

You’re missing out if you don’t give this pairing a try. Inspired by hot rods, the CAO Flathead V660 is a box-pressed beast heavy on Nicaraguan leaf and encased in a smooth Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Subtle notes of sweet fruit enhance the honey syrup and tangy lemon juice in the Gold Rush cocktail. The bourbon’s flavors of oak and caramel emphasize the V660’s rich and leathery taste that’ll leave you reaching for another. How to Make Your Own Gold Rush

The Gold Rush is the bourbon cocktail you’ll want in your hand all summer. It’s a simple but balanced drink comprised of bourbon, honey syrup, and fresh lemon juice. We recommend a good bourbon with some age on it—four to eight years will do nicely.

For a single serving, you’ll need:

  • A cocktail shaker
  • One mixing glass
  • One glass
  • Ice
  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. honey
  • 1 oz. simple syrup
  • ¾ oz. lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Instructions:

  1. Mix the honey and simple syrup in a mixing glass to make honey syrup
  2. Pour the bourbon, honey syrup, and lemon juice into a shaker with ice and shake until chilled
  3. Strain into a glass over ice
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist
  5. Light up, and enjoy!

I've had mix experiences with the Flathead. I was introduced to them in a sample pack, a Steel Horse Apehanger on a brown label and thought it was fantastic. Nice slow burn and rich, deep flavor. I then bought some Steel Horse Roadkill Gordos and have not been as happy. I found most of them to be loosely wrapped so are burning quickly and getting a taste of ash. I love the flathead shape but am not sure if I will purchase more.
