What is a cigar scissor cut?
A scissor cigar cutter uses a dual set of blades, similar to your ordinary kitchen scissors, to cut a horizontal line through the cap of a cigar.
Even though a scissor cigar cutter will take off an almost identical amount of surface area compared to guillotine cutters, scissor cutters are a bit more versatile.
Why? ‘Cause scissor cigar cutters fully open and shut, there isn’t a closed aperture. That means you’ll be able to cut a larger variety of cigar ring gauges. Whereas, the opening on a guillotine cutter is fixed and normally maxes out at about 56 to 60 ring gauge.
A pair of cigar cutter scissors will produce an amazingly smooth draw with less intensity when compared to other cutters like a v-cut or a cigar punch.
How to cut a cigar with a scissor cutter
If you’re new to cigars and are thinking about trying a scissor cigar cutter, it’s fairly simple and much like the process of using a guillotine cutter.
You’ll align your blades right next to the seam that’s present in the cap of the cigar. But, before you cut, make sure your blades are not too far above the seam or close to the band. When you remove too much tobacco from the head of the cigar it can cause the wrapper to unravel, and ultimately impact the cigar smoking experience.
Once you have your cigar aligned correctly, push the handles together firmly and swiftly to create a precise, clean cut on your cigar.
