Deep Dive: Macanudo Cigars
They’re one of the most renowned cigar brands on planet earth. They fill pro shops across the globe, are present for birthdays, weddings, bachelor parties, the list goes on and on.
This week, the Cigar World team brings you along for a deep dive into none other than Macanudo, America’s best selling premium cigar.
A little Macanudo history
Just like any brand, it all has to start with a product and a name. Interestingly enough, for Macanudo, their name was inspired by a cigar size made by the Cuban Punch cigar brand.
However, it wasn’t until 1971, under the direction of cigar legend Ramón Cifuentes, that General Cigar launched the new Macanudo. It was ready. After years of testing and blending different tobaccos from across the globe, the group had a cigar line that was unparalleled to what other cigar makers were doing at that time.
The blend contained Dominican and Mexican tobaccos. But the true star of the show was the wrapper. Connecticut grown and aged up to three years, this Connecticut Shade tobacco leaf provided subtle, sweet tasting notes that GCC believed would appeal to American smokers.
Before they knew it, Macanudo Cafe was available and selling out in restaurants, golf courses, and shops across the country. Fast forward to today and Macanudo is still the best selling premium cigar in America.
Where are Macanudo cigars made?
All of Macanudo’s cigars are hand rolled and made at the General Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic.

Macanudo cigars are of incredible quality, they’re hand rolled from the best tobaccos, and they’re America’s best selling premium cigar. This is in most part to the phenomenal success of Macanudo Cafe, a smooth, mellow cigar that presents an iconic combination of sweet and spice.

(24 months ago)I've smoked many Macanudos especially once they released the Inspirado line. I never had an Inspirado that I didn't enjoy, as far as "M" series my favorites are the original M and the Mint Cocoa sticks. Macanudo sure upped their game after a few tough yrs.
