Cigar World Predicts the Future (2024 Edition)
Who’s ready for 2025?
While 2024 brought its fair share of exciting new cigar releases, we already can’t wait for what 2025 has in store for cigar lovers. Do we know precisely what that will be? Of course not, but we’re going to try and predict it anyway! Here are a few of our best guesses for the upcoming year. (And if you want to see how we did last year, check out our blog here.)
The Return of the Culebra
The Culebra (Spanish for “The Snake”) is one of the rarest and most striking cigar shapes. Indeed, it’s not really one cigar — but two or three twisted and bound together. The origins of the Culebra are mysterious, but we expect to see at least one major brand release a Culebra in celebration of the Lunar Year of the Snake, which begins in January. If you see a Culebra release, don’t miss your chance to experience this classic cigar oddity while you can!
Thick is the New Normal
Once upon a time, cigars with a 60 or larger ring gauge were considered anomalous curiosities that might appeal only to a niche audience. However, thicker cigars are now part of the norm, and we expect this trend to continue. Watch for some of your favorite cigar brands to add sizes like gigantes (6 X 60), robusto gordos, or unique shapes like the Punch Knuckle Buster Stubby (4.5 X 60) to their established portfolios.
Breakout Brand to Watch: El Titan de Bronze
El Titan de Bronze gained acclaim in the cigar industry as an American factory that produced some of the finest cigars in the world. Over the years, they’ve collaborated with brands like Drew Estate, Warped, Cohiba, Partagas, and La Gloria Cubana. And just last year, they partnered with General Cigar Co. to distribute one of the factory’s own branded cigars: Redemption. Given the success of Redemption and the factory’s bona fides, don’t be shocked if El Titan de Bronze continues its upward trend in 2025 (and beyond) with even more cigars of their own.
Another Record Year?
In many respects, 2024 was another year of positive growth within the industry. Many retailers noted an increase in sales, though a good number of brands also raised prices. The hope for 2025 is that prices will stabilize, and the interest in cigars that the industry has enjoyed for the past 5-6 years will only continue. Put us in the optimistic camp on this one!
