Cigar Reviewed: The Caldwell Lost & Found Fatalist

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

The Caldwell Lost & Found Fatalist I found was a figurado – like a short pyramid. 4 1’2 inches with a Habano wrapper and, as always, Dominican filler from mystery locations – a prerequisite for any Lost & Found.

There’s a very light smoke output, a thin veil of smoke and a slightly tight draw. The wrapper cracked twice during the smoke.

Flavor profile: Mild pepper, earth, leather and wood . Tried to wake up my palate with a small bite of chocolate and a dram of single malt scotch. I wait….and I wait. (Snore) … nothing changes after several more puffs. My palate hit the snooze button. The final third did offer one more flavor note as the vitola narrows. There was a hint of coffee but it was faint and fleeting May as well been Nescafe.

I got precious little from smoking this cigar other than being able to put a check mark on my bucket list of smoking yet another Caldwell Lost & Found. The Fatalist gets a 2 only because I reserve a 1 for cigars I find terrible and just can’t smoke after a few minutes. This Lost & Found was one that may have been purposely lost with no intention of being found.

Maybe the trick to enjoying this stick is getting in touch with my inner existentialist, my inner Nihilist. One must channel Friedrich Nietzsche to appreciate the philosophical flavors and nuances of the Fatalist.
