Smoked: Sancho Panza Double Maduro Alicante

Smoked at: Fairfield, Ohio

Sancho Panza Double Maduro Alicante is box-pressed using Nicaraguan & Dominican filler, a Nicaraguan binder and is covered in a fairly oily dark brown Sungrown Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper.

I used by buy the Double Maduros on my trips to northeast Ohio many years ago. The shops and lounges there seemed to carry them more often than they do elsewhere.

Cedar, pepper, almonds, and dark chocolate with sort of a nougat chocolate candy bar taste. Cream and citrus jump into the background halfway into the first third. That’s the extent of any transitions. It’s not terribly complex, but the rich and bold flavors do work well together.

White ash that held to well over an inch before tapping off, an impressive even burn line through the midway point before going a bit off-kilter, the draw was open with just the right amount of resistance, and the smoke output was reasonably good.

This is a dark, rich, bold, robust cigar. Yet the strength was medium through the finish. There’s not much complexity but the flavors though minimal do meld into a satisfying smoke. I was pleasantly surprised that a cigar so rich and bold in flavor could be so medium in strength. Now I remember why I liked this cigar when I first discovered it in the lounges of northeast Ohio.
