Smoked: La Aurora 1987 Connecticut

I’ve always tended to be a Maduro kind of guy, but lately I’ve been happily wandering into the Connecticut camp. Holy smokes, this cigar was good!

Another stellar cigar from La Aurora, this 5.75 x 54 toro provided a delightful full-bodied, medium-strength experience. Construction was freekin’ perfect, providing for an ideal draw and exemplary burn. Retrohales were smooth and oh so flavorful! From La Aurora’s website:

“Wrapper: Connecticut (Ecuador).

Binder: Ecuador.

Filler: Cibao Valley (Dominican Rep), Nicaragua & Peru.”

Did they say “Peru?” Yeah, that must have had something to do with it.

Also from their website:

“Tasting Note

Cedar wooden flavor and leather is the main aromas of La Aurora Connecticut 1987. Its Connecticut wrapper, light brown with very fine veins, provides the smoke with cocoa notes and very nutty at the end. Very well-rounded in mouth, you’ll be able to find easily cinnamon, red fruits and pastry hints.”

I tend to agree. I’ll add buttery to the mix.

In fact, upon spark-up, this stogie was so delicious that I hesitated pairing it with my usual shot of Evan Williams Kentucky Bourbon followed by a Sam Adams Boston Lager, as I didn’t want those to drastically alter my palate. I waited until the halfway point to imbibe, but was pleased to discover that both the whiskey and beer paired wonderfully with it.

La Aurora, you done it again. Cheers!
