Cigar Reviewed: My Father The Judge
Smoked at: Fairbanks, AK
Synopsis: They need to rename this stick The Fudge.
The Cigar handshake:
At first you're greeted with 2 beautiful bands proudly showing the My Father logo and the name of the cigar, in gold with a chocolate brown background, and a grey ribbon signaling that this is something special to take note of.
Next is the beautiful wrapper with a slight sheen and the texture of silky smooth used 5000 grit sand paper.
I moistened the cap and opted for a punch cut. The cap greets you to the cigar with a slight bitterness and some earth and leather notes. The cap is thick but plyable when moistened with saliva which cut like butter with my punch (honestly need a new punch though as mines dull)
Cold draw was like sucking the aroma from a tray of grandma's brownies. Notes of rich plush brownie batter, espresso, and leather are an eager invitation.
I lit with a dual torch on low setting, toasting the foot for about 15 seconds while rotating for an even toasting before I began puffing and wow! The experience was as follows.
First puff gave a kick of red pepper, on the edge of too much, like that crazy ginger you took on a date. A waterfall of notes of 60% dark chocolate, dark roast espresso, and Spanish cedar flood my mouth and schnoz
1st Third:
First Third is continuing on with that rich chocolate, leather, and a little spicy red pepper. The draw is smooth with enough restriction to be satisfying and the burn is even, both signs of marvelous construction. Wonderful smoke output and solid strength, doesn't punch you in the throat but you know it's strong, sorta like that girl you took to homecoming you could probably deadlift more than you.
Completely unrelated but the aroma in the car is reminiscent of my teen years when my family would take a summer road trip to Florida. Doesn't smell like it, but for some reason reminds me of those fond memories.
2nd Third:
Coming into the second third those flavor notes stay true and blend together wonderfully, notes of caramel and toast enter the picture too alongside some red pepper backing them up. The burn is continuing to stay even as a pool table and the draw is great, I tend to roll the ash off before it gets to an inch long so I couldn't tell ya how long the ash can get for ya ash holes. Smoke output stays consistent and the strength stays true.
The aroma in the vehicle is warm and welcoming, like the kitchen of the old lady down the street who always gave you baked goods as a kid while her husband sat in his recliner in the living room smoking and watching NCIS.
3rd third:
Things got interesting, the flavor notes continued to blend and now I'm getting notes that taste like a DARK nutella spread modestly on a piece of perfectly toasted marbelled rhy backed by toasted cedar and some nutmeg and a strong red pepper. There's a creaminess to it for you to chew on and the strength ramped up to a profound kick of nic. The burn throughout this entire cigar has been even with no cracking, canoeing, or any other issues. The draw has opened up slightly which even furthers everything great about it now as I CANNOT GET ENOUGH. Smoke production is still great.
Honestly it feels like the end of a phenomenal date that you'll remember and think about for years where you already know you'll have that satisfied empty feeling at the end. I don't want it to end. Maybe I should call her.
*bonus round, the nub*
"The force is strong with this one." This cigar finished strong, literally. The ending notes were a STRONG cedar and red pepper and a milder background dark chocolate, with a powerful punch of nicotine to the mouth. The burn and smoke stayed true, the construction is marvelous. After this I had to go to the corner store and get a quart of chocolate milk to give my stomache something and to fulfill that desire for continuity in the chocolate department. I feel like I just finished that great date with a tray of brownies and a TALL glass of milk at her place.
