Smoked: My Father La Antiguedad

Smoked at: Wetherington, Ohio

My Father La Antiguedad Ever since this cigar was released, it has been compared to the Flor de Las Antillas. I’ve run into a number of back stories over the years and my understanding is they are both Garcia creations and are supposed to play off original Cuban seed tobacco recreating heritage cigars. They do have similar bands so maybe they’re related by marriage. La Antiguedad uses an Ecuador Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper That’s different from the Nicaraguan puro Flor de Las Antillas boasts.

Cedar, peanuts, earth, grass, pepper and assorted spices kick off the flavor parade. A sweetness is present in the background, although I find it hard to determine it’s true identity. At times it’s sweet enough to be pancake syrup. Other times, it’s chocolaty and combines with the peanuts enough to inspire Reese’s – which reminds me I need to buy some Halloween candy. There is a hint of black cherries and coffee in there as well. The retrohale is more earthy, leathery and nutty with a dash of black pepper.

Give the construction high marks – nice open draw, a burn line that remained even with one touchup, solid smoke production and light grey ash that held tight throughout the smoke.

My Father La Antiguedad is a very enjoyable full-bodied cigar. The comparisons with the Flor de las Antillas have been made since this cigar’s release. The two are similar yet unique. La Antiguedad is a bolder, more robust version of the Flor de las Antillas. To me, it’s like picking sides with a Twix. I like them both.
