Long Ash Cigar

Cigar Reviewed: La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor Reserva Maximo

Smoked at: Carolinas

They say you can tell a lot by a cigar from its ash. White ash means it was grown in mineral rich soil. Black ash, depleted soil. Long ash means long full tobacco leaf fillers well rolled inside the wrapper. Short ash means cut or chopped bits and pieces of tobacco leaf instead. I usually don't let my ash get this long. I prefer to roll it off before it falls in my lap, but this ash had an intriguing structure so I decided to let it grow. This photo is just before it fell off. This 5.5 x 54 Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva Maximo is delightful. The cigar comes with a very ornate double band and smells fresh and grassy. The wrapper is a nice dark brown Oscuro with tiny veins. The cold draw tasted like sweet tobacco. Once lit, it was leather and the occasional note of sweet potato. Pleasant, mild, and very smooth. Then a third of the way through, the cigar began to build. I got a mid smoke of heavy pepper and notes of black tea. And finally, in the last third, the pepper and tea faded and a very pleasant flavor of malted cocoa and roasted nuts emerged. This was my afternoon smoke. A Mexican wrapper with Nicaraguan fillers, it is full bodied and very smooth. The construction is excellent with no unraveling and no flakes of tobacco in my mouth. It burned a little unevenly, but I believe that was because I was outside in a light breeze. I just kept turning it, and as you see, the ash hung on. I would buy this smoke again.
