Cigar Reviewed: Camacho Ecuador

Smoked at: Carolinas

I picked up a Camacho Equador. It had a lovely brown wrapper with a blue cigar band. The aroma of the unlit cigar was rich and woody. The cold draw similar with some nuttiness. The draw was tight but a draw tool opened it up nicely. The cigar lit up easily and burned slow and cool. The ash was white with significant streaks of black and held on for well over an inch. Initially, I got a potent blast of black pepper. It's a strong tasting cigar. I noted the black scorpion on the cigar band and thought that was appropriate the way the spiciness stung my palette. As the smoke progressed, the cigar mellowed some with flavors of espresso and leather emerging. The spiciness faded just a bit. I first thought this would need to be paired with something equally strong, like a 100 proof Scotch or Rye. But then I thought it might go better with a cold Lager to extinguish the fire. Either way, it's a bold and full flavored smoke. I probably wouldn't buy it again for myself, but I'd recommend it to anyone who likes it spicy, or who needs a good wake up cigar.
