Ferio Tego Metropolitan Hobart

Cigar Reviewed: Ferio Tego Metropolitan

Smoked at: West Chester OH

The Nat Sherman boys in New York want me to try their restored version of the Metropolitan. To be honest, I have had only one Nat Sherman that I thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t recall the series or specific cigar since I didn’t buy it. It was gifted to me many years ago. I remember it having a broadleaf wrapper. That said, let’s fire up the Ferio Tego Metro.

The Ferio Tego Metropolitan Hobart Connecticut is a medium to med-mild bodied cigar. The flavor profile includes mild spice, cedar notes and the usual creaminess I associate with a Connecticut. Thought the Connecticut Shade would pair nicely with coffee so I paired it with Aribica coffee for a morning smoke.

Began with a bit of sweetness on the cap. Thought I picked up a Baccarat by mistake. I don’t put sugar in my coffee so what was this? The sweetness on the draw subsided after a few puffs so I assume it was in the blend. But that sugar cane sweetness never returned.

The burn was uneven for the first third. Several touch ups later the burn line evened out and it was fine for the remainder of the smoke.

This stick gives out a generous volume of smoke. I like that. After the initial touch ups, the cigar held the ash very well. The draw was generally cool until the last several puffs.

The spice becomes more prominent on the last third. It’s not seriously spicey. More like baker’s spice.

Would like to report citrus notes. I read reviews where the cigar has notes of citrus. I have never tasted citrus in a cigar. Maybe my taste buds are just citrus impaired, probably due to lime disease. If anyone has ever tasted citrus, let me know the cigar. I’d love to try one.

This is probably more of an evening smoke. If I smoke it again, I wouldn’t pair it with coffee. Perhaps pair it with a snifter of d’Usse VSOP cognac. I’m sure Jay Z would approve.

Would I smoke it again? Perhaps. Just to see if the cognac pairing works. It’s a decent cigar. Just nothing outstanding about it. It could be a good smoke for a beginner or anyone who enjoys mild cigars.
