Smoked: Eiroa Classic

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Eiroa Classic is a box pressed Honduran puro with an oily, brown wrapper. The primary band includes the Spanish words “Salud Amor y Pesetas,” which translates to “Health, Love & Wealth.” If smoking this cigar will grant me those 3 wishes, I’m all in. The Eiroas were in town for a cigar event last week – well right across the river in Kentucky – so it’s only fitting to review one of their cigars this weekend.

Flavors: Oak and cedar interplay, spice with a frosting-like sweetness (cookie, candy, donut?), pepper, earth, and mineral. Hints of cocoa and mixed nuts pop up here and there. The retrohale is woody and peppery, but it’s subtle.

Tight draw that was opened up with a cigar tool, although I never got the kind of resistance sweet spot I prefer. There was a thin veil of smoke. Bummer! With such minimal smoke production it was hard to taste enough flavors through most of the smoke. It’s medium-full bodied, but this thing packs a punch for a 4 X 48. The strength started medium ratcheting up to med-full, full by the finish. The ash held firm. There was a narrow but fairly even burn line.

This is a slow burning cigar – surprisingly for a 4 x 48 shorty. The lack of smoke production may have played a role in the length of the smoke. Frankly, I would have preferred it smoked faster and produced more flavors.
