Smoked: Dunbarton Sobremesa Brulee

Straight out the cellophane, Dunbarton Sobremesa Brulee looks like something out of pre-embargo Cuba. Looks can be deceiving…but not in this case.

The flavors abound from the very first puffs - creamy, buttery, vanilla icing, toffee, nutty (cashews & hazelnuts), cereal notes and an array of mild spices. This cigar is smooth, mild and well crafted. Everything is balanced and there is enough complexity to make it more than interesting – almost a guessing game as to what flavors will emerge next. A few puffs hint at cheesecake and frosting.

The retrohale is interesting in that it is not like the flavors of the cigar. I sense leather, chalk and mild pepper

The draw starts out a bit loose but tightens into a perfect draw. There’s a fairly even burn line - maybe a tad tilted at one point but nothing to dock points over. Overall the construction is near flawless.

I can’t say enough about this cigar. In one word: Elegant. It is a bit pricey but, in this case, you truly do get what you pay for. It is more than Cuban-esque. The smoking experience was a glimpse into how I imagine Castro’s cigars tasted. 5-plus across the board.
