Smoked: Caldwell Eastern Standard Cypress Room

Smoked at: Sharonville, Ohio

My first experience with Caldwell Eastern Standard was the Corretto a couple of years ago. At the time, I was underwhelmed. I have since become a big fan of Caldwell’s Eastern Standard. This morning’s stick is the Cypress Room made with Dominican filler, a Dominican Habano binder and covered in a dark tan Connecticut hybrid wrapper with barely noticeable veins and some oily sheen. .

Excellent open draw, a good amount of thick smoke and a fairly even burn throughout. The flavor profile ia creamy, peppery, spice, walnuts, cedar (and occasional oaky notes). cocoa, and a dash of leather, caramel and coffee. The coffee taste ratchets up by the second third. The taste and aroma remind me of ordering from a barista. There are also hints of a tart citrus flavor hiding in the weeds. The cigar has a nutty, peppery retrohale.

It’s another medium bodied achievement by Robert Caldwell. He seems to have much success with mediums. The Cypress Room is a fast-burning cigar as is the smaller Vitola Corretto. Caldwell Eastern Standard pairs well with coffee in any Vitola.
