Who are Sisters of the Leaf Global Movement?

You may or may not have heard of Sisters of the Leaf Global Movement (SGM). If not, continue reading because you need to know who they are and what they are doing in the cigar industry.

According to their site, sotlglobalmovement.com, their mission is to introduce women to the cigar world, to inspire and lead them to extraversion, to empower them to raise their voices, to motivate them to create cigar communities, and in collaboration with men, to develop a better environment for aficionadas and aficionados. They want to sculpt a better world, free from stereotypes, where women’s position shall be established in a base of equality.

SGM offers tobacconist shops the option to become certified as a Women Friendly Cigar Lounge and for cigar aficionado/as to become a certified Cigar Sommelier Tobacconist through their Maestro School. They have also started the Cigar Speakeasy, which we talk about more below.  

This group is no joke. The advisory board is made up of women who are leaders in the cigar industry, such as Amanda Micallef, Cynthia Fuente, Janine Perdomo, Karen Berger, and more amazing aficionados. (Check out the full list of board members here.)  They are led by Dr. Anastasia Psomiadi, who encompasses a passion that cannot be matched for the movement. These women volunteer their time, as SOTL Global Movement is a nonprofit initiative, to advise on the direction and strategy of the SGM and the goals of SGM:

• Design and run various training and educational programs/seminars related to the cigar world and culture of cigars
• Address and develop a better cigar world in every possible aspect, including labor issues
• Design, suggest, and implement actions, practices, and charity activities while also inciting cigar industries to improve their social and environmental impact.
• Create community through organizing in-person and virtual events to keep the dialogue between cigar stakeholders open. 

On 10/2/2023, SOTL Global Movement made an announcement that the Cigar Speakeasy is welcoming a new hostess, Belkys Sanchez.  The SOTL Global Movement Cigar Speakeasy is an exclusive online mentorship haven for women dedicated to fostering self-authenticity, personal growth, and mentorship. It offers a unique space for women to come together, explore the art of cigar smoking, and engage in meaningful conversations centered around various life topics. Building upon its successful launch earlier this year with Detra Denise, the Speakeasy continues to evolve with fresh perspectives and engaging topics.

In today's demanding world, where women often find themselves juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, the SOTL Global Movement Cigar Speakeasy remains a sanctuary for personal growth and authentic connection. This unique online mentorship experience, hosted every other Wednesday at 8:00pm CST, provides a concealed and serene environment for women to come together and explore the art of cigar smoking while delving into meaningful discussions.

Each SOTL Global Movement Cigar Speakeasy session will revolve around a specific theme and topic.
